Sr. Geoscience Technician (Finance)

Job Summary

Sr Geo Tech supports the Asset Teams in seismic, well, production, culture, and GIS data management. The teams consist of senior geologists, geophysicists, and petroleum engineers working on fields development or exploration projects across different regions. The Geoscience Technologist will be responsible for managing and analyzing subsurface data, advancing data management projects in collaboration with subsurface teams, loading and transferring data between platforms and creating maps and other analyses for internal use, and ensuring data quality control. The role requires experience in G&G interpretation in Petrel, Studio, Kingdom and ArcGlS Pro for GIS data management. Additionally, the technologist will be expected to build effective, collaborative relationships with subsurface teams and Murphy digital platforms stakeholders, migrate projects across platforms, and utilize advanced digital workflows and software skills to support the geoscience scope of work.

The Sr Geo Tech will work in our Houston Corporate office and may work two (2) days a week remotely.

Responsibilities

  • Manage a variety of subsurface data (seismic, well data, G&G interpretation), data loading, naming conventions, data formats, data manipulation, and analysis
  • Conduct data clean-up efforts and recognize current/official data versus working data
  • Utilize Kingdom, Petrel, Studio and ArcGIS for data management, data transfer and analysis
  • Install, update different applications, plug-ins, and software's used by Murphy staff
  • Utilize advanced digital workflows and software skills to support geoscience scope of work
  • Conduct data quality control on various types of data
  • Build effective, collaborative relationships with subsurface teams and Murphy digital platforms stakeholders
  • Migrate projects across platforms
  • Load seismic and well data into different applications
  • Manage software licenses and security groups to grant access to virtual machines in the Murphy environment
  • Utilize the Microsoft ecosystem (Office 365, SharePoint, Power Suite, and Azure).
  • Maintain databases under the supervision of others and ensure data quality
  • Search and identify data for the team and resolve data issues with assistance
  • Use coding abilities (Python, PowerShell, VBA, etc.) for data transfer, QC, and formatting

Qualifications/ Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in geology, geophysics or geographical information systems (GIS)
  • Minimum 5 years' experience in Subsurface Data Management (seismic, well logs, interpretation, production data) through various applications
  • Advanced experience working Studio data management and data transfers between various data platforms and subsurface applications
  • Basic experience with PetreI, Studio, Kingdom, Paleoscan and ArcGIS Pro interfaces and tools including installation, updating, adding plug-ins, etc ...
  • Experience in working with technical staff from all levels and fulfilling organization needs in terms of data availability, management, QC
  • Experience with QCing seismic and logs data and familiarity with data QC and management protocols and practices
  • Basic experience of OSDU and DELFI and cloud subsurface platforms

The individual is required to follow all applicable safety precautions. Work is performed almost entirely in a controlled (i.e., inside) environment and does not typically subject the incumbent to any hazardous/extreme elements; some positions may require regularly moving or transporting items weighing up to 25 lbs. around the office for various needs. The successful candidate must be able to complete all essential physical requirements of the job with or without reasonable accommodation.
