Non-College Work-Study| Department of Criminal Justice and Social Work (Finance)



Department: Criminal Justice Salary: $16.00 per hour
Description:

The Department of Criminal Justice and Social Work, under the College of Public Service, is looking for 4 student assistants to work with its Houston Endowment-funded Civic Engagement initiative. Student assistants will work closely with Dr. Fei Yang and Dr. Liza Barros-Lane to conduct criminal justice and civic engagement research and service activities. The position is ideal for those wishing to gain firsthand research and service experience in criminology, criminal justice, social justice and social change, and civic engagement.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Required to complete all UHD online training pertaining to employment/scholarship
• Required to complete criminal justice agency background checks as needed
• Must commit to working 15-19.50 hours per week during both the Fall 2025 and Spring 2026 semesters
• Must be willing to interact with criminal justice professionals and justice-involved individuals
• Must have demonstrated strong interest in criminal justice and civic engagement research
• Must have demonstrated good academic writing skills
• Must have demonstrated good interpersonal communication skills

Qualifications:

• Must be a current UHD student
• Must be a Criminal Justice major with junior or senior standing with a GPA higher than 3.75
