Senior Health Consultant (Finance)

We are currently recruiting for a Senior Health Consultant to join our New York Region. Segal is a flexible hybrid organization. 

The Opportunity: The Consultant operates independently or as part of client teams, delivering a broad range of health benefits consulting services to Multiemployer, Public Sector and/or Corporate/Single Employer organizations. 

The Role: The role involves managing projects for medium-sized and/or complex cases, which may require coordination of integrated resources. The Consultant should exhibit initiative, collaboration, and strong commitment to meeting assignment and project deadlines. The Consultant actively contributes to revenue growth by identifying opportunities to expand existing projects or secure new assignments within their practice area as well as participate in the development of new client relationships and the preparation of related materials such as project plans and proposals. The Consultant also mentors and coaches junior staff members, fostering a diverse, equitable and inclusive work environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Client team and project experiences involve extensive client-facing opportunities, which are designed to offer broad-based exposure to the design, development, and implementation aspects of employee benefit projects. Core responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Contributes to a work environment that is diverse, equitable, and inclusive.
  • Focuses on developing advanced knowledge/skills including advising clients on complex subject matters.
  • Demonstrates broad and deep expertise in a practice area while developing familiarity with services offered by other Segal practices.
  • Strong understanding of group benefits, including medical, dental, vision, life, disability, and ancillary benefits.
  • Familiarity with benefits funding mechanisms (e.g., fully insured, self-insured, stop-loss, etc.).
  • Ability to analyze claims data and conduct trend forecasting, pricing, and cost modeling.
  • Experience performing reserve calculations, developing actuarial assumptions, and creating budget projections.
  • Ability to support RFP processes and vendor negotiations.
  • Proficiency in regulations like ERISA, ACA, COBRA, and HIPAA compliance.
  • Manages projects involving medium-sized and/or complex cases that may involve coordination of integrated resources across offices or regions as needed.
  • Provides guidance and expertise to peers, subordinates, and clients; formally mentors and develops subordinate staff.
  • Conducts final review of work products to ensure accuracy and quality.
  • Engages with and influences clients at senior levels, ensuring alignment with their needs and objectives.
  • Takes responsibility for helping client teams comprehend and address client needs.
  • Contributes formally to revenue growth via ability to identify opportunities for extension of own projects and/or for obtaining assignments from existing or new clients in practice area.
  • Contributes to firm's thought leadership, intellectual capital, innovation, and quality improvement initiatives.

Key Requirements:

  •  A minimum of 5 to 8 years performing relevant roles within a consulting firm and/or progressive corporate environment. Work experience must include involvement in the analysis, design, underwriting and implementation of a broad range of benefits programs.
  • Bachelor's degree in related field, i.e., Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Finance, Accounting, or Health Policy.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving, analytical, and quantitative ability.
  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills (oral / writing) along with ability to interact with a diverse audience of colleagues and clients.

The current salary range for this position is $124,500 to $165,000 plus opportunity for a discretionary performance bonus based on company profitability and employee performance.
