Postdoctoral Research Fellow - Pediatric Surgery (Finance)
A postdoctoral fellow position is available to study brain imaging in Pediatric Neurosurgery. The laboratory studies complex pediatric movement disorders as well as epilepsy and hydrocephalus.
POSITION SUMMARY:
Manages the day-to-day activities for pediatric neurosurgical research projects of considerable scope and complexity.
POSITION KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:
1. Collects, evaluates, interprets, and documents research pediatric brain MRI and data to accomplish the objectives of a variety of research projects.
2. Uses Python, R, MATLAB and common neuroimaging programs such as FSL, AFNI and Freesurfer to analyze neuroimaging data.
3. Uses 3D printing and additive manufacturing techniques to create models
4. Influences project direction and outcomes by identifying opportunities to enhance, terminate, or re-direct research activities.
5. Evaluates and interprets data and provides results to investigators to support publication
6. Maintains quality control checks and a safe environment in compliance with all governmental and University policies, rules, regulation and codes.
7. Assists in the preparation and writing of research reports, manuscripts, papers and grant proposals for presentation and publication.
8. Attends laboratory meetings of affiliated co-investigators.
9. Performs other duties as assigned.

Position Key Accountabilities:
1. Plans and conducts experiments, analyzes data, and prepares publications describing results.
2. Assists in training and mentoring of lab personnel, including graduate students and other trainees.

4. Possess interpersonal skills to effectively collaborate and communicate with individuals at all levels.
5. Have strong written and oral communication skills.
6. Performs other duties as assigned.
CERTIFICATIONS/SKILLS:
Certification for Protection of Human Research Subject may be required or must be completed within 5 days of employment.
Python coding experience
UNIX experience
Familiarity with neuroimaging software such as FSL, AFNI and Freesurfer
Matlab and R coding experience preferred
Web-development and Machine learning experience preferred
3D printing and Additive Manufacturing experience required
CAD/CAM Fusion360/Solidworks experience required
Intellectually curious.
MINIMUM EDUCATION:
Ph.D. in a research-related field.
MINIMUM EXPERIENCE:
Prefer 2 years of related research experience.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Exerts up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds frequently and/or a negligible amount constantly to move the mobile computer workstation.
Residency Requirement:
Employees must permanently reside and work in the State of Texas.
