  • High School Diploma or equivalent with 4 Years of documented Level 2 experience, or 2 Years of engineering or science study at a technical school, college or university with 2 years of documented Level 2 experience, or 3-4-year science or engineering undergraduate degree with 1 Year of documented Level 2 experience
  • Must be able to pass the Level 3 testing requirements.
  • This position supervises no others
  • Must be able to work flexible hours including night and weekends with little advanced notice
  • Experience and working knowledge in specific NDT method
  • Ability to read, understand, and train written Activity Instructions, Customer Specifications, and Industry Standards in accordance with standard procedures
  • Team oriented attitude, ability to work well with others
  • Ability to communicate effectively and timely (verbal and written)
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously while meeting deadlines
  • Adequate Computer Skills (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Completed Level 3 certification(s) (NAS 410, ASNT) for Visual Inspection and/or Fluorescent Penetrant Inspection

JOB SUMMARY

The Level 3 Trainee position was created to ensure the availability of trained personnel for the primary Level 3 position if needed. In the event of a Level 3 departure, the Level 3 Trainee must be positioned to assume the primary Level 3 position. The position will encompass both visual inspection and fluorescent penetrant.

The Level 3 Trainee will split their time between assisting the Level 3 in the assigned duties of audits, technique creation and other technical functions listed below, and the remaining time will be spent performing their production function. After hire, a training plan will be developed to bridge the gap to achieve Secondary Level 3 certification. This plan will also specify how the time will be split up between Level 3 tasks versus production. After training is complete, the Secondary Level 3 is required to complete certification requirements in accordance with industry, customer, and corporate standards as well as pass company and customer Level 3 examinations. After certification, the Secondary Level 3 will continue to perform in dual functions (Level 3 tasks and production), continuing to gain experience by working with the primary level 3 as part of succession planning.

This position will be expected to work overtime as required to ensure customer and production requirements are met.

JOB FUNCTIONS

Job responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to, the following.

  • Participate and assist in internal, external, and customer audits
  • Assist in training and monitoring proficiency of the Level 1 and Level 2 NDT inspectors (OJT and Technical)
  • Assist in performing L1 and L2 audits for product conformity and process comprehension (this will require overtime and/or coming in on off-shifts to audit employees that work on off-shifts)
  • Ensure NDT processes for product criteria are met
  • Ensure NDT inspections for product criteria are met
  • Monitor equipment availability and maintain equipment, fixtures, and tools as necessary
  • Under the guidance of the primary Level 3, become responsible for developing and maintaining procedures and processes to ensure adherence to industry and customer requirements
  • Maintain required documentation and records for specific method as required
  • Interpret specifications and blueprints under the guidance of the primary Level 3.
  • Complete Secondary Level 3 training per plan to be developed by Quality Manager and primary Level 3.
  • Perform tasks as assigned by the Level 3 and/or Quality Manager.
  • Support Manufacturing as needed with production L1 and L2 duties.
  • Assist with Level 1 and Level 2 work standards
  • Assist in projects to improve work area
  • Assist in prioritizing and coordinating product workflow through NDT inspections
  • Assist in process documentation for proper technique
  • Interface with Level 3 for technical guidance pertaining to manufacturing for NDT issues
  • Perform L1 and L2 duties as needed
  • Assist in introducing new technology within the NDT method
  • Lead R&R studies as necessary
