Accounting Data Analyst (Finance)

Job Summary

Murphy is seeking a motivated Data Analyst to join the Production Revenue Accounting team. The role is ideal for someone who possesses practical knowledge and has a passion for streamlining processes and creating insightful dashboards. This position will be learning the current state of accounting processes, then assisting accounting teams to improve workflow efficiency and to enhance analysis in our deliverables.

This individual should exhibit professionalism, be respectful of others, and demonstrate strong work ethics and accountability. The ideal candidate will be able to learn quickly, help to foster a data-driven environment, and provide automation suggestions to optimize workflows.

This role will be in our Houston Corporate office and may work remotely two (2) days a week.

Responsibilities

  • Develop or enhance and maintain interactive dashboards related to production, revenue, and transportation cost tracking and comparisons
  • Gather and refine user requirements to create or improve value-adding reports
  • Collaborate with IT to fetch relevant comments and significant statistics from other departments' dashboards
  • Ensure data sources are reliable and well-documented, and validate data periodically to ensure integrity and consistency
  • Create scripts and workflows to streamline routine tasks on each team member's assignment
  • Monitor and maintain automation processes to ensure accurate results and uptime
  • Train end-users on using dashboards and automated tools effectively

Qualifications/Requirements

  • Bachelors degree
  • 2 years of experience supporting accounting/finance organization
  • Developer experience with dashboard tools (e.g. Power BI, Spotfire)
  • Hands-on knowledge with automation tools such as Power Automate, Python/SAP scripting, or Excel macros
  • Good problem-solving and communication skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in data analytics, computer science, or information systems is highly preferred
  • Oil and gas industry experience
  • SAP system knowledge
  • Experience with data integration or API connections across systems

The individual is required to follow all applicable safety precautions. Work is performed almost entirely in a controlled (i.e., indoor) environment and does not typically subject the incumbent to any hazardous/extreme elements; some positions may require regularly moving or transporting items weighing up to 25 lbs. around the office for various needs. The successful candidate must be able to complete all essential physical requirements of the job with or without reasonable accommodation.
