Fall River Health Services is looking for a Licensed Practical Nurse who provides direct patient care under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse and serves as a direct channel of communication between the patient and the assigned Registered Nurse. Schedule: Varied 12-hour shifts with a Holiday and Weekend Rotation. Responsibilities: Provides direct nursing care under the supervision of a Registered Nurse, including rendering personal hygiene care and participating in the formulation and updating of the patients care plan. Administers medications and treatments, including respiratory therapy modalities, and records them. Infection control policies and practices are applied and enforced. Organizes time, effort and energy in rendering care; exercising judgement in establishing priorities. Reports incidents and changes in patients condition to the Registered Nurse. Appropriate action is taken in stressful, unusual and emergency situations. Establishes good intra-personal relationships and appropriate interactions. Understanding, patience and tact are demonstrated. Constructive criticism is accepted and applied. Provides patient instruction during hospitalization and upon discharge. Assists with orientation and continued learning of new staff members and students. Professional and clinical competence is maintained through active participation in various continuing education programs. New knowledge and skills are applied and shared. Provides safe, effective nursing care as ordered by the provider, utilizing the nursing process and in conformance with recognized nursing techniques, policies, procedure, standards and in accordance with the South Dakota Nurse Practice Act. Accurately observe, reports and records observations of patients condition. Administers medications and treatments as ordered. Maintains good interpersonal relationships and assures confidentiality to preserve the Position of Licensed Practical Nurse Department Med Surg Follows safety and infection control policy and procedure to ensure a safe and clean environment. In addition to the responsibilities described above, the role may include other responsibilities and duties as assigned on occasion, based upon facility needs or requirements. Core Competencies: Provides direct patient care according to the physicians orders and in conformance with recognized nursing techniques, policy, procedure, standards and in accordance with the South Dakota Nurse Practice Act. Reports any incidents that have occurred or changes in a patient condition to the Registered Nurse. Internally the Licensed Practical Nurse is in frequent contact with patients, families, Physician and other patient care staff.
