Sr. Chief Engineer Navigation and Sensor Systems (Finance)



We are seeking an accomplished and results-driven Senior Chief Engineer to provide technical authority and strategic direction for the development and lifecycle support of advanced Guidance, Navigation, and Control (GN&C) sensor systems. As the Design Authority, you will lead the development of high-reliability inertial navigation products, including accelerometers and supporting sensor technologies, for deployment in industrial, aerospace, defense, and space applications. Supporting technologies will also include precision timing, alternate navigation modalities and legacy thermal switches.

This role requires deep technical expertise in navigation-grade sensor systems, combined with strong leadership capabilities to guide multidisciplinary engineering teams and align technical strategy with business objectives. The ideal candidate will be located in Redmond, WA, the center of excellence for development engineering and manufacturing of high-performance accelerometers, while also supporting MEMS foundry manufacturing operations in Plymouth MN for MEMS gyroscopes, accelerometers, and precision timing products.

This role will work with the broader Honeywell engineering organization, suppliers, customers, and regulatory agencies to ensure we leverage all our resources and talent to achieve world-class performance for GN&C products.

This position is part of a powerful, innovative, and agile team consistent with elements of the Honeywell Aerospace Chief Engineer Transformation Initiative, which is based on the Toyota Chief model. The position requires the chief engineer to partner with customers, leadership, and the broader engineering teams to ensure continuous business growth.

Major Responsibilities

Leadership

• Serve as the Design Authority with final accountability for GN&C sensor product technical decisions and direction.

• Provide strong technical leadership with the ability to influence and obtain consensus across engineering, program management, and executive leadership.

• Act as a partner with the Offering Manager and function as the Chief Engineer Navigation Sensors business.

• Drive MOS to use the Chief Engineer/PAC Scorecard. The Chief leads and collaborates with PAC members to identify and implement improvements and opportunities for growth. The Chief ensures regular updates to scorecard ratings and improvement plans.

• Serve as an active member of the Product Action Committee (PAC) such to drive GBE alignment

• Participate in knowledge management and transfer including development of succession plan candidates.

• Guide and mentor engineering teams in Redmond, WA, and support manufacturing teams in Plymouth, MN, fostering collaboration between design and production.

• Champion the deployment of improvement initiatives, identify and remove roadblocks, and ensure alignment of technical execution with organizational goals.

• Share lessons learned and best practices across programs and participate in the development of succession planning for critical technical roles.

• Provide oversight of technical processes and tools used in product design, analysis, and tests.

• Lead the engineering & technology intellectual property plan for G&NC products.

• Experience leading Design Reviews

• Experience dealing with Honeywell customers and suppliers for commercial and defense products and services.

• Experience collaborating with personnel at other Honeywell sites foreign and domestic.

• Experience with Honeywell internal processes (IPDS, IRB, SARB, MRB, DREA)

Product Strategy

• Drive concept development and ideation for Break Through Initiatives (BTI).

• Promote and influence NPD Transformation for Speed

• Drive concept development and innovation initiatives for next-generation GN&C sensor systems.

• Provide oversight and guidance to Advanced Technology in defining technologies and products to address customer needs, competitive challenges, or disruptors.

• Develop and maintain technology and product roadmaps aligned with long-term business objectives and growth strategies.

• Promote transformation initiatives in New Product Development (NPD) to increase speed and efficiency.

• Review and analyze Voice of the Customer (VOC) and competitive intelligence to inform technical strategies and product plans.

• Provide oversight and guidance to Advanced Technology teams in defining breakthrough sensor technologies and architectures.

• Support the development of product design requirements, qualification strategies, and certification processes (FAA, EASA, DoD, Mil-Qual).

Pursuit Strategy

• Guide, review, and approve technical concepts.

• Provide leadership for trade study activities to identify optimum solutions for Honeywell's GNC product line.

• Provide technical leadership in proposal development, including guiding trade studies, reviewing technical concepts, and ensuring compliance with customer and business requirements.

• Review and approve program plans, Statements of Work (SOWs), and technical Basis of Estimates (BOEs).

Program Execution

• Provide technical oversight and direction for all phases of GN&C sensor development, from requirements definition through qualification and delivery.

• Ensure critical technical, programmatic, and business issues have effective risk mitigation plans.

• Participate in and approve internal and external design reviews (TCR, PDR, CDR) to ensure technical rigor and alignment with system-level requirements.

• Champion program performance metrics, including Design-to-Cost (DTC), Rolled Throughput Yield (RTY), and overall product quality.

• Ensure compliance with customer specifications and applicable regulatory standards for GN&C hardware.

Life-Cycle Ownership

• Lead investigations into field and production issues, driving effective root cause and corrective action (RCCA).

• Provide technical leadership for resolution of critical in-service issues and participate in safety review boards as required.

• Support sustainment and upgrade strategies for deployed products, ensuring alignment with long-term technology roadmaps.

Basic Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in Electrical, Aerospace, or Mechanical Engineering.

• 20+ years of engineering experience in the design and support of navigation sensor systems, including requirements development, design, testing, qualification, and lifecycle support.

• Proven expertise in inertial navigation systems, GN&C hardware, and aerospace sensor integration.

• Demonstrated ability to lead multidisciplinary engineering teams and influence stakeholders across the organization.

• Ability to work on-site in Redmond, WA, with support responsibilities for MEMS manufacturing operations in Plymouth, MN.

Preferred Qualifications

• Advanced degree (Master's or PhD) in Engineering.

• Familiarity with FAA, NASA, DoD, or other regulatory certification standards.

• Six Sigma Green Belt or equivalent process improvement experience.

• Experience collaborating across global engineering teams and supply chains.
