Manual Turning (CNC Machining) (Manufacturing)



SUMMARY
The Manual Turning Machinist will be responsible for performing complex close tolerance operations in turning, facing, boring, chamfering recessing and form turning on a wide variety of production parts. This position will set up and operate engine lathes, turret lathes or vertical boring mills.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Check the Route Sheet (QD222), blueprint, and sketch for the operation and instructions
Measure rough material and divide stock to ensure 100% clean up
Turn the first side per turning sketch, blueprint and Route Sheet (QD222) instructions. Check all dimensions, and if correct, remove the piece part from the machine
On second side, use soft jaws when applicable. Skin cut soft jaws to ensure the face will run true within .001 T.I.R., true up the outside diameter to run true within .001 T.I.R.
When turning bevels, a proof spot should be added to the back and O.D. of the gear
Check the size, and if correct, remove the piece part from the machine
Stamp parts per SOP304
Follow bar-coding procedures per SOP499
Read and understand drawings of product, and understand all written work instructions
All other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS
Academic/Experience/Credentials/Certifications
High School diploma or equivalent education
At least (3) years of experience with the functions of the machines and to operate them competently and efficiently preferred

Specialized Skills/Knowledge/Ability
Use shop mathematics, micrometers, and measuring instruments
Work from blueprints, sketches, route sheets and verbal orders
Provide necessary hand tools, and measuring instruments
Able to use company gauging

Language Skills:
Ability to read and comprehend documents including technical information. Ability to speak effectively with vendors and as a representative of the Company.

Mathematical Skills:
Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

Reasoning Ability:
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form. Strong ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several variables at the same time.

The employee must be able to occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
