Service Carpenter Foreman (Construction)

Purpose:  The Service Carpenter Foreman plays a key lead role on the job site, combining hands-on expertise with the ability to guide and support teams and Customers. Projects vary in scope and include short duration projects. In addition to performing the full scope of Union Carpenter responsibilities, the Service Foreman directs field personnel as needed, ensuring work is completed efficiently, safely, and to the highest quality standards. This role requires sound decision-making and collaboration with the Service Engineer or Manager on more complex issues. A strong focus on customer satisfaction, adaptability to changing site conditions, and clear communication are essential to success. The Service Foreman is responsible for building, installing, and repairing structures, fixtures, furniture, and other maintenance-related tasks using a variety of materials, including wood and steel.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Communicate clearly and professionally with end-users regarding work being performed, prioritizing client satisfaction.
  • Demonstrate high responsiveness, accountability, autonomy, and a commitment to quality.
  • Supervise team members, when requested, in a fair, respectful, and manner aligned with RJM expectations.
  • Prepare project layouts, including estimating proportions and selecting appropriate materials.
  • Interpret and work from blueprints, plans, scope narratives, or supervisor instructions.
  • Work with a variety of materials including wood, plastic, fiberglass, drywall, steel, and concrete.
  • Utilize carpentry and finish tools (e.g., chisels, planes, saws, drills, sanders) to construct, repair, and finish structures.
  • Join materials using nails, screws, staples, or adhesives.
  • Perform light concrete work, including patching and repairs.
  • Erect scaffolding and perform drain and storm sewer work.
  • Replace glass panes, ceiling tiles, and doors as needed.
  • Repair or construct furniture and install partitions, doors, windows, and other maintenance items per work orders.
  • Move and install machinery safely and efficiently.
  • Oversee and coordinate basic mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) work.

Additional requirements

  • Observe, document, and report maintenance and facility issues promptly.
  • Maintain a clean and safe job site by securing tools and equipment daily and ensuring the site is broom-swept and hazard-free.
  • Follow all safety protocols and incident reporting procedures, including site-specific client requirements.
  • Adhere to client-specific trademark and privacy standards at each site.
  • Ensure all sites are properly secured at the end of each workday.
  • Successfully pass any required site-specific background or clearance checks.
  • Escalate issues to the service engineer, manager, or safety director as appropriate.

Qualifications and Education Requirements
Education: 

  • High school graduate
  • Any combination of education and experience that demonstrates the knowledge and ability to perform the work. High school graduate 
     

Work experience: 

  • Minimum of three years in all phases of commercial construction. 
  • Knowledge of commercial construction and remodeling trades, practices, procedures, techniques, tools and equipment, materials, specifications, quality control, cost control and safety. 

Demonstrated technical competencies to include: 

  • OSHA 30 required
  • ICRA certification preferred
  • Well-rounded carpentry background to include rough carpentry, finish carpentry, painting, framing and drywall, flooring and overall general maintenance.
  • Aptitude to read and understand submittal information and documentation.   
  • Ability to navigate maps and floor plans on a complex jobsite.
  • Prior experience working in tenant improvement, class a occupied spaces.  This includes adhering to specific building rules and regulations.

Software:

  • Microsoft Suite, including email Outlook program for scheduling.
  • Ability to learn new software related to work orders, billings, or other service-related tasks.

This is a collectively bargained position of the Carpenter's Union.  The hourly pay rate is $52.04. Please note that wage rates are subject to change based on the release of updated union wage rate sheets for the applicable year.  Full Union benefits are part of the package.
