Community Planner (Architecture)



The Planner (AICP) will support a multidisciplinary team that specializes in civil, transportation, water resources, and environmental engineering. This role will lead infrastructure planning projects for cities, counties, watershed districts, and other local government units. The Planner will collaborate with engineers, local governments, community stakeholders, and public agencies to develop comprehensive and strategic plans that guide infrastructure investment. The position will also assist in the development of funding strategies and the preparation of applications for state and federal grant programs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the preparation of comprehensive and strategic plans for cities, counties, watershed districts, and other local governments.
  • Conduct research and data analysis to support planning efforts and feasibility studies.
  • Draft clear, concise, and technically sound planning reports, proposals, and communications.
  • Organize and lead project meetings, client briefings, and interagency coordination.
  • Support the development of funding strategies for public infrastructure projects.
  • Prepare compelling application narratives for state and federal grant programs.
  • Support public meetings, workshops, and stakeholder engagement processes.
  • Manage tasks, timelines, and deliverables for multiple projects simultaneously.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) certification.
  • Bachelor's degree in Urban Planning, Public Policy, or a related field.
  • 5-10 years of professional planning experience.
  • Excellent writing and communication skills.
  • Strong organizational and project coordination skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working with cities, counties, and other local government units.
  • Experience with varied state and federal grant programs.
  • Familiarity with community engagement and public facilitation.
  • Familiarity with GIS, data visualization tools, and other planning technologies.

SALARY RANGES VARY BY STATE, BASED ON COST-OF-LIVING ESTIMATES OF THE BASE WORK LOCATION.
North Dakota, Colorado, and Minnesota salary grades are included in this range. Beyond work location, within this range, individual pay is also determined by factors such as education, experience, credentials and job-related skills. Position is also eligible for participation in additional incentive compensation programs not included in this range. Total range = $65,200 - $107,500.
