Engineering Supervisor (Finance)



Position Summary:

Supervisors in this unit group supervise and coordinate the activities of workers who operate processing machines and who fabricate, assemble and inspect rubber or plastic products. Ensures labor is managed efficiently and effectively. Provides guidance, direction and training to personnel in respective areas as needed. Promotes cooperative and committed attitude toward all associates. Ensures adherence to company rules and regulations.

Primary Responsibilities:

• All tasks needed to program, set up and operate CNC machines.

• Assign and co-ordinate and review the technical work of the department or project teams.

• May take part in the design, development and inspection of technical projects or in the engineering work of the department.

• Prepare requisition orders to replenish materials, equipment and stock.

• Design power plants, machines, components, tools, fixtures and equipment.

• Investigate mechanical failures or unexpected maintenance problems.

• Supervise toolmakers.

• Design molds, tools, dies, jigs and fixtures for use in the manufacturing process.

• Develop and prepare design sketches.

• Initiate improvements to existing systems. Processes machinery and equipment to support manufacturing functions and operations.

• Resolve work problems and recommend measures to improve productivity and product quality.

• Requisition materials and supplies.

• Set up machines and equipment.

• Keeps abreast of technology improvements, recommends and justifies implementation of equipment and process establishing cost reduction improvement.

• Identify vendors of materials, equipment or supplies.

• Participate in the development of specifications for equipment, products or substitute materials.

• Store items in an orderly and accessible manner in a warehouse, tool room, supply room or other area.

• Prepare requisition orders to replenish parts, supplies and materials.

• Estimate type and quantity of materials and labor needed for production.

• Calculate costs of materials, overhead and other expenses based on estimates, quotation and price lists.

• Co-ordinate and monitor the movement of parts, supplies and materials within an establishment and ensure that supplies, materials and products are shipped and received on schedule.

• Obtain price quotations from catalogues and suppliers and prepare purchase orders.

• Prepare and maintain various reports on the progress of work, materials used rates of production and other production information, using manual or computerized systems.

• Conduct research into the feasibility, design, operation and performance of mechanisms, components and systems.

• Develop maintenance standards, schedules and programs and provide guidance to industrial maintenance crew.

• Works closely with shift supervisors and department managers to ensure proper quality operations of materials and equipment on new job start-up.

• May, on occasion, be required to perform duties other than those specified in this description.
