Pathologist's Assistant (Finance)

Provides technical assistance in the areas of anatomical pathology through application and instruction under the direction of a primary care physician.
Position Key Accountabilities:
1. Responsible for a complex, clinical laboratory procedures which require experience and specialized training which would otherwise be performed by a physician.
2. Supervises the Gross Room, the Frozen Section Area, and the morgue facilities.
3. Instructs residents and medical school students, under faculty supervision, as they dissect gross specimens.
4. Monitors the specimens as they arrive in the gross room and assigns the dissection of the specimens to the residents according to their level of expertise and their workload.
5. Performs routine gross dissection as necessary in consultation with the attending physician.
6. Aids in the selection of tissue for research and route them to the appropriate laboratory.
7. Conducts new employee orientation and training in autopsy techniques.
8. Supervises the maintenance of the autopsy/morgue facilities, equipment, disposable supplies, develop and implement policies affecting the autopsy/morgue service, update the Autopsy Service Procedural Manual, and the autopsy/morgue service portions of the Nursing Manual and the Hospital Policy & Procedures manual.
9. Prepares quarterly quality assurance reports, monthly workload summary reports, and month autopsy service call schedules.
10. Supervises the Sophomore Pathology Gross Specimen Museum, selects new specimens and ensures proper identification of each specimen.
11. Other duties as assigned.
Certification/Skills:
Current American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) Certification as a Pathologist Assistant.
Minimum Education:
Master's degree in Pathologist Assistant Studies with current certification and no experience.
OR
Bachelor's degree with current Pathologist Assistant certification and 2 years of experience.
Minimum Experience:
Experience based on degree
Physical Requirements:
Exerts up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 20 pounds frequently and/or up to 10 pounds constantly to move objects.

Employees must permanently reside and work in the State of Texas.
