Advanced Chemical Engineer – Gas Processing Technical Services, Field Services hybrid – 50% travel (Finance)

We are currently looking for an experienced Chemical Engineer for a 50/50 hybrid role with UOP's Technical Services and Field Services groups. This is an exciting and unique opportunity to work in the U.S. and internationally - 50% of the time from the UOP office as a Technical Services Specialist within the Gas Processing and Hydrogen Technical Services team and 50% of the time at our customers' operating sites as a Field Services Technical Advisor within the Field Services team.

UOP Technical Services Specialists with Gas Processing and Hydrogen Technologies provide technical support for a range of UOP technologies such as Separex, LNG treating, Gas Processing, Russell, MolSiv, Benfield, Carbon Capture and PSA. The primary responsibility of the position is to complete the transfer of UOP-licensed or UOP-designed units that operate optimally, profitably and safely. To do so, the Specialist will have regular interaction with external customers, and with other UOP personnel involved in technology delivery projects. In addition to customer contact, the position provides interaction with all the UOP departments involved with technology delivery. The interaction with other UOP departments provides excellent exposure as well as providing knowledge of accountabilities in other areas.

UOP Field Services Technical Advisors work embedded at the customer site prior to, during and after the initial start-up of UOP process units. They help to ensure that the unit and operators are ready for commissioning. Field advisors are also involved in the start-up and test runs that demonstrate guarantees, are accountable for process and equipment insight, and assist customers in resolving engineering and operating issues. The duration of a field project can be a few days to several months before moving to the next assignment. For each field assignment, advisors can work with several UOP-licensed processes and with a variety of individuals within and outside of UOP. The experience gained from each assignment, and the subsequent interaction with other UOP employees, provide a solid background for assessing and solving problems encountered in each situation in various locations around the world.

Key Responsibilities:

• Serve as the focal point for office-based support of new unit and revamped unit startups from pre-commissioning through guaranteed acceptance

• Participate in R&D technology improvement projects

• Champion changes & improvements in technologies supported via innovation (MOIs)

• Participate in customer meetings

• Participate in Engineering review meetings for new units and revamps including Design Basis, PFD, P&ID, MFD, Plot Plans, HAZOP, -Model Reviews, and others

• Review, analyze and provide feedback on commercial unit operating data and other commercial information/experience

• Provide both office-based and field troubleshooting assistance to commercial units

• Conduct commercial unit audits

• Prepare and update general operating manuals, process technology manuals, and training materials and present UOP technology training courses both in the US and abroad

• Provide field technical assistance on new and/or revamped Gas Processing unit checkout and startups

• Follow required field safety procedures

• Provide field feedback including suggestions on improving UOP process designs

• Troubleshoot issues and recommend solutions

• Be familiar with controls communications networks

• Coordinate field commissioning activities

• Review emergency and normal operating procedures with customer shift operating personnel

• Advise customer operating personnel on the establishment and maintenance of the various process variables necessary to achieve safe and efficient operations

• Collect and analyze unit operating data and laboratory results

• Build effective and productive relationships with customer counterparts

• Conduct unit audits to support expansion projects as well as new multi-unit complex startups

• Advise customer personnel during the performance of various activities routine to the long-term operations of a UOP process unit

• Travel and reside near field site for the duration of a field project

The annual base salary range for this position is $97,000 - $122,000. Please note that this salary information serves as a general guideline. • Bachelor's degree in chemical engineering

• 8+ years of experience in the Petrochemical, Gas processing or Refining industry

• The ability to commit 50% of time to international and domestic travel and to reside near the customer site for long uninterrupted periods (project duration can be up to a few months)

• Ability to work in a physically challenging environment

• Flexibility to work hours that are dictated by customer requirements and assignment scope

• Strong customer focus, and the ability to work as part of a team

WE VALUE:

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel and Word

• Ability to interact with customers on a global basis

• Experience leading multiple teams on large projects (multiple process units) at the customer site
