Lead Electrochemical Engineer (Biotech)
What you will do:
This role entails the initiation, planning, and execution of engineering projects. The selected candidate will be responsible for leading and overseeing product engineering deliverables, while providing comprehensive technical expertise on raw materials, battery sub-components, and various electrochemical development initiatives. Responsibilities also include directing laboratory-based electrochemical testing and collaborating with external partners. Demonstrated proficiency in the fundamental operation of Lead-Acid battery electrochemical systems is essential. A broad understanding of alternative energy storage technologies is required to ensure a chemistry-agnostic perspective. Travel expectation is approximately 10% of time between Milwaukee and other Clarios sites (U.S., Mexico, and Europe), conferences, and technical meetings.
How you will do it:
PROJECT LEAD
Take a leadership role in the initiation, development and execution of multiple concurrent Engineering projects aimed at new technology development or existing product improvement, aligning with the company's project/program management procedures.
Prepare detailed plans to track performance and assure timely completion and achievement of project goals. Gain internal support/sponsorship for new initiatives and prepare the business case with internal budget estimates, get support for the required capital and consumable resources. Prepare well defined statement of work (SOW) documents.
Report on project progress to management and other appropriate leadership levels at suitable intervals.
Utilize laboratory tests, mathematical models, and statistical techniques to initiate, develop and launch new products or support existing product improvements.
Employ development and testing techniques at the raw material level, the battery level, and all levels in between.
Work closely with internal laboratories to schedule testing and manipulate the data generated into readily comprehensible format.
SUPPORT MANUFACTURING
Provide comprehensive technical support to the greater organization relating to battery materials, processes, and products. Take regional (or global) ownership of assigned material and process procedures/specifications – over time become a respected technical resource and subject matter expert.
Coordinate and carry out test battery builds. Initiate the planning and implementation lead acid battery development experiments for design validation (DV) and product validation (PV), with associated electrical, physical, and chemical testing.
Liaison with internal customers to provide technical guidance for component and material selection specifications.
Support problem solving activities to resolve manufacturing issues incorporating customer cares and technical requirements.
Collaborate on interdepartmental teams using common problem-solving methodologies, (PDCA, KT, 8D, 6-sigma) to establish root cause and follow up to achieve resolution.
IMPROVEMENT
Identify performance and/or quality improvement opportunities.
Work with interdepartmental teams to generate data for cost or scrap reduction projects.
Provide support to key customer technical meetings. Effectively communicate with internal and external customers. Support Technical Account Management and commercial groups with technical presentations and field customer responses.
GROWTH
Work with National Labs, DoE, and industry consortia (BCI, CBI, EAI, etc.).
Keep abreast of developments and issues in subject technology to strengthen Clarios competitive position.
Review published literature and patents.
Maintain a current awareness through industry networking and appropriate conferences.
Report on and evaluate emerging technology trends.

What we look for:
PhD preferred in a physical science or engineering discipline (Chemistry, Physics, Metallurgy, Material Science, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, etc.). 0 to 5 years of industry experience, preferably in automotive, systems, electrochemical or metal manufacturing environments. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, including statistical evaluation and use of extended data manipulation applications such as Excel/Minitab/Matlab. Ability to interpret drawings, test specifications and technical documents. Adept at directing and influencing an extended team. Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and identify critical requirements. Strong project management and execution skills, critical path analysis and timeline planning. Ability to collaborate and communicate openly within Clarios team-based, matrix environment. Solid communication skills to present data, both internally and facing external suppliers, OEM customers or industry groups. Working knowledge of: Applications, products, processes, material and product tests, D/P-FEMA, Control Plan, PPAP, APQP, K-T, 8D, Six Sigma tools. Manage engineering resources without direct authority. Travel expectation is up to 25% between Milwaukee and other Clarios sites as necessary. Must be an effective self-starter capable of managing priorities, eliminating roadblocks and maintaining focus.
