Supply Planning Manager (Biotech)

Today, Lonza is a global leader in life sciences operating across five continents. While we work in science, there's no magic formula to how we do it. Our greatest scientific solution is talented people working together, devising ideas that help businesses to help people. In exchange, we let our people own their careers. Their ideas, big and small, genuinely improve the world. And that's the kind of work we want to be part of.

We are currently seeking a Supply Planning Manager to support our integrated planning process. This key role is responsible for the development and execution of the supply plan, including the Master Production Schedule (MPS) and medium-term capacity outlooks. You will lead a team responsible for production scheduling and small order fulfillment, while collaborating cross-functionally to ensure seamless material flow and inventory control. This is an excellent opportunity to drive planning excellence, enhance visibility, and optimize performance across the supply chain. This is an onsite position based out of our Walkersville, MD location, requiring onsite presence four days per week.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the monthly supply planning cycle, including the development, execution, and maintenance of the supply plan and MPS.

  • Oversee the production scheduling team across multiple value streams; collaborate with Manufacturing, MSAT, Quality, Master Data, and Program Management to ensure alignment.

  • Manage the small order fulfillment team, ensuring timely communication of critical updates to internal stakeholders and accurate system reporting.

  • Drive the intercompany planning process to ensure consistency in global supply commitments.

  • Coordinate material availability and finished goods inventory to reduce waste, avoid discards, and minimize scrap.

  • Support monthly Sales & Operations Planning (S&OP) and annual budget cycles with supply planning inputs and insights.

  • Lead key site processes such as the Discard Review Board and block stock meetings in collaboration with cross-functional teams.

  • Oversee the Monthly Slow Moving & Obsolete Goods (SMOG) process to reduce inventory inefficiencies.

  • Track and improve performance using supply chain KPIs; drive continuous improvement initiatives based on data and business needs.

  • Serve as the central liaison between Supply Chain, Operations, and other stakeholders to maintain a consensus-driven supply plan.

  • Ensure all planning data and parameters are accurately maintained in SAP ECC and SAP IBP systems.

  • Align the supply plan with labor, material, and asset capacity needs across the organization.

  • Own and drive timely resolution of CAPAs and deviations relevant to the planning function.

  • Ensure adherence to Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) procedures when applicable.

  • Coach, develop, and motivate direct reports, fostering a culture of accountability and operational excellence.

Key Requirements:

  • Bachelor's or master's degree or equivalent experience in supply chain management, Business Administration, or a related field.

  • A proven experience in supply planning, production planning, or related supply chain functions within a manufacturing environment.

  • Strong leadership capabilities with experience managing teams and cross-functional initiatives.

  • Proven ability to influence stakeholders at all levels and drive consensus in planning decisions.

  • Advanced problem-solving and analytical skills; ability to perform root cause analysis and develop actionable solutions.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel and PowerPoint in particular).

  • Experience with ERP and advanced planning systems; SAP ECC and SAP IBP experience strongly preferred.

  • Familiarity with Business Intelligence tools for planning and reporting.

  • Clear and effective communicator with strong presentation skills.

  • Results-driven mindset with the ability to manage complexity and prioritize effectively in a dynamic environment.
