Supervisor Quality Assurance - Fresh (Finance)



Job Overview:

The QC Supervisor is responsible for the quality control process upon receipt of product, during on hand inventory, and product selected for customer shipment. Responsible for reporting of Rejections, Marginal Quality and internal KPI's for the division operations and sales teams.

Job Responsibilities:

Core Responsibilities

• Provides daily direction, supervision, and development opportunities for QA associates, by training, assisting, mentoring and recognition. Ensures UNFI company standards, policies, procedures are followed supporting company goals and initiatives. Works with cross-functional team; operations, sales and procurement; providing reports, quality assessments and inspection results.

• Oversees UNFI fruit ripening program by reviewing projected demand, coordinating orders and delivery with procurement team, conditioning and ripening protocols are followed. Ensuring proper handling procedures, storage and shipping procedures are followed, teaching, training QA, operations teams, and external partners on best practices.

• Provides training on all fresh produce and meat items: Work with other departments to enforce quality Inspection specifications upon receiving. Works with Manager to meet quarterly spoilage targets. Utilizes Retailer scorecards and consumer insights to identify areas of underperformance in freshness that led to lower-than-expected sales and profit goals and commitments.

• Complete process reports and reviews to reduce produce and meat quality credits and to improve customer satisfaction

• Provides QA associates commodity training to fully understand the use of the Share-Ify tablet to complete inspection at receiving point. Collaborate with inspection team ensuring correct knowledge of USDA, UNFI, guidelines and specifications and of company training CBL's.

Additional Responsibilities

• Alignment and standardization of Warehouse QC Departments: Maintain information flow- dwell on a timely basis daily to keep procurement and merchandising teams on top of inventoried product.

• Communicate with departments in operations, sales procurement verifying standard product specifications; Establish daily reporting schedule to ensure timely accounting, selecting and disposition of product.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements:

Education/ Certifications:

• College degree in Agriculture, Food Science, or related field and or 3 years' experience in quality control, quality assurance, produce sales, food retail management.

• USDA knowledge of Produce/Meat and Interstate Commerce Standards, HAACP, and PACA laws

Experience:

• 3+ years of produce/meat experience in a best-in-class perishable distribution organization and responsible for setting and enforcing produce and meat quality standards. Supervising Associates

Knowledge/Skills/ Abilities

• Excellent interpersonal and oral/written communication skills, with ability to lead and communicate effectively across all levels, and the ability to create/maintain vendor relationships.

• Strong computer skills and proficiencies in Word, Excel, and Power Point skills

• Good judgment is required for this position as there may be times when direct supervision may not be immediately available.

Work Environment:

Onsite Role:

• This position requires the associate to perform all duties at one of our UNFI locations, such as a distribution center or office.

Travel (minor):

• This position may require the associate to travel to company offices, distribution centers, or other locations for specific meetings or other business reasons.

Physical Environment/Demands:

Warehouse Roles:

• Ability to lift up to 75 pounds and to stand, walk, bend, stoop, twist, and turn frequently.

• Exposed to temperatures ranging from -20 degrees below zero to 35 degrees Fahrenheit in Perishable Operation and 37 degrees to 90 degrees Fahrenheit in Grocery Operation.

• Ability to do repetitious arm, wrist, and hand movements required for maintenance and service procedures.

• Must be able to work with hands and arms overhead, and to work in or under the equipment.

• Requires manual dexterity, overall coordination, and good balance to work both at ground level and in high places to perform job duties. Ability to operate work-related equipment.

• Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
