Division Supervisor, Light Rail Transportation (Project Management)

This position is responsible for supervising rail transit employees reporting for duty for either mainline or yard operations, to ensure the safe and efficient operation of rail transit service. This is a safety sensitive position subject to the rules of the RTD Drug and Alcohol Policy.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities: 

  • Recruits staff to include interviewing, hiring, assigning work, training, coaching, and counseling to ensure consistent application of Employee Guidelines, processes, and procedures. 
  • Collaborates with community groups, contractors, and other area transit and municipal agencies.
  • Troubleshoots light rail vehicle problems and operates light rail vehicles as required.
  • Performs administrative duties, such as payroll, work assignments, creating extra board schedules, sign-out and hold-down boards.
  • Monitors the attendance program by maintaining records of floating holidays, sick, vacation, anniversary dates.
  • Develops, updates and maintains procedures, presentations, bulletins and manuals.
  • Conducts ride checks, time-point and passenger load checks.  
  • Performs Yard Master duties which include yard oversight, setting up trains for service, supervising yard crews and completing appropriate documentation.
  • Performs all other job-related duties as assigned.

Qualifications: 

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • A minimum of one year as a full-time train operator.
  • Must possess a valid Colorado Driver License or the ability to obtain one within 30 days.
  • Must posses or have ability to obtain a DOT Medical Certification with at least 1-year of certification and obtain a LRT Train Operator Certification and maintain thereafter.
  • Must be able to hear and respond promptly to instructions or questions transmitted over a radio system in a clear voice.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Able to work daytime or evening hours, weekends and holidays.
  • Able to communicate effectively through verbal and written means.
  • Able to use sound judgment.
  • Able to manage time and workload effectively to include planning, organizing, and prioritizing with attention to detail.
  • Ability to maintain a high-performance level of dependability, reliability and safety.

Working Environment and Physical Requirements:

The work environment and physical demands described here are representative of those required by an employee to perform the essential functions of this job with or without reasonable accommodations.

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to walk on even and uneven terrain (ballasted track).
  • The employee will be frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts and vibration, loud noises, and regular exposure to outside weather conditions.
  • The employee must also be able to regularly lift 50 pounds and occasionally lift 75 pounds.

Pay Range:

$65,177.00 - $92,062.25 Annual
