Quality Control Technician (Biotech)



Essential Responsibilities/Duties: 

•  Monitor wastewater treatment plant and air pollution control equipment and operations.
 •Test the semi-finished casing physical parameters (BDG, DFW, centering and stretch burst) on 42 routine positions each 8 hours plus start-ups and re-checks.
• Check and report on dye loading measurements (12-18 positions every 8 hours) and report results to CEDA and distribution.
• Manually enter test results (like the Bone Dry measurements, PH readings, acid concentration, glycerin concentrate, etc…) into the computer.
• Measure plant solutions for concentration (acid and caustic), for pH, aerosol content, harness and clarity (glycerin). Test frequency could vary from once daily to 6 times daily.
• Measure pH of semi-finished casing (10 samples daily) and Viscose index including carbon black (10 samples daily).
• Perform casing visual inspections (stripe width and density, sentinel color density and window widths, weak spots, double wall, gels, bubbles etc.). All positions once to 6 times daily.
• Measure the water tub and dye vat pH every 8 hours (11-14 samples).
• Monitor WWTP and the pollution control system off hours.
• Test semi-finished casing for glycerin content (60 samples weekly). Test hold area casing to verify out-of-standard results.
• Perform ultra-filtration testing.
• Run control standard samples (Stretchburst, permeability, casing pH, etc.).
• Attend and participate in monthly department safety meetings for training on specific safety topics.
• Perform testing specific to dialysis runs (ultra-filtrations, casing pH, solution pH, Stretchburst centering etc.). Two positions run for a month or more annually.
• Run mandrel studies and other special requests (competitive special runs, etc.) when needed.
• Other duties as assigned.

Requirements for the position: 

• High School Diploma with basic mathematics and chemistry.
• Minimum of 2 to 4 years of demonstrated experience in manufacturing and/or a chemical processing quality organization as well as laboratory procedures and processes.
• Good verbal and written communication skills and a high degree of professionalism.
• Must be able to identify problems, collect data, establish facts, draw conclusions and make recommendations for solutions.
• Demonstrated ability to work across multiple disciplines in a team environment.
• Strong analytical focus.
• Demonstrated good interpersonal skills.
• Good computer skills in Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel) and the experience and comfort level accessing and entering data into a computer.
• Understanding of safe work practices, process safety management, and safety and environmental regulations.
• Strong at completing tasks on schedule, with high quality and attention to detail.
• Knowledge of various laboratory/quality pieces of equipment such as: MSBU, Spectrophotometer, pH probes, centering machines, scales, ovens, dosimat, burets, pipettes, and cutting boards.
