Software Engineer III (Finance)



Who you are:

You are one who works on development and maintenance of web and mobile applications and ensure business applications are available for use 24x7 in production. You can use web and mobile technologies and application development tools to create, test, implement, and maintain applications in-house. You can work with internal and external business partners to research problem requests, find, and correct production problems, develop application features, perform quality reviews of project deliverables and maintenance work that is being implemented into production. This position will provide technical consulting on web, mobile and cloud applications to business users, project teams, and other departments in the organization.

Location:

This position is a hybrid position, requiring two days a week working onsite at Round Rock, Texas.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The position incumbent is expected to perform the following essential duties and responsibilities of the position with reasonable accommodation.

  • Business and Technical interactions/communication - Work with business and IT teams collaboratively and communicate verbally and in writing clearly using business as well as technical terms.
  • Project planning and estimating - Identify the project milestones, estimating the effort and prepare action tasks.
  • Research and Analysis - Performs project analysis, root cause analysis of prod issues, design solutions, identify implementation steps.
  • Programming- program the solutions, perform walkthroughs and prepare migration packages
  • Testing - Unit testing, System & User Acceptance testing, and Production Smoke testing upon implementation.
  • Deployment - Prepare deployment plan, run instructions, get required business approvals for implementation, submit prod implementation packages to operations team.
  • Support - Participate in on-call rotation supporting batch and online processing; monitor systems; respond to customer application needs.
  • Documentation - Create/update the business and application specifications, processes and procedures.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field.
  • Experience in the information technology field may be substituted for a degree, or in combination with college courses or a technology certification, on a year-for-year basis.
Experience

Required:

  • Four (4) or more years of experience serving in increasingly responsible roles with IBM mainframe applications development, testing, and production support.
  • Strong technical experience with COBOL II, CICS, DB2, Z/OS, VSAM, TSO, Syncsort, DB2 utilities, JCL, and IBM Utilities and related mainframe technologies.
  • Maintaining and debugging of CICS applications, Cobol batch processing and DB2 stored procedures.
  • Knowledge of Top Secret in mainframe applications IAM and application-level security controls.
  • Proficiency with both batch and online processing in mainframe environment
  • In-depth experience in SQL queries, database operations and reporting
  • Must have participated in application on-call support rotation

Preferred:

  • Experience converting mainframe Cobol applications to modern distributed applications using Java, Python etc.
  • Knowledge of IBM Application Discovery and Delivery Intelligence (ADDI), Watson Code Assistant for Z (WCA4Z) or other AI based tools for code generation and code conversion
  • Experience with IBM development/testing utilities, BMC Control products.
  • Change Management, Control-D reports
  • Knowledge of FFEL program, student loan applications.
  • Possess awareness of non-public information (NPI) privacy safeguards.

PHYSICAL AND MENTAL DEMANDS

  • Occasionally must move about inside the office.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
  • Work may be conducted remotely or in an office with a surrounding small cubicle environment.
  • Office work environment is climate controlled with no substantial exposure to adverse environmental conditions.
