Job Description:
The Emerging Accelerators Team (EAT) in the AI Research Lab of Hewlett Packard Labs has an opening for an IC design tool and methodology Technical Lead (TL). EAT is a vertically integrated team currently focused on research into analog in-memory computing circuits and architectures for AI/ML workload acceleration. The TL's fundamental role is to enable custom IC designs utilizing mixed signal CMOS circuits as well as emerging devices such as resistive RAM non-volatile memory for EAT as well as other teams across Hewlett Packard Labs.
Hewlett Packard Labs is an international research organization with its headquarters and largest facility located in Milpitas, California. As the central research organization for Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE), Hewlett Packard Labs' purpose is to deliver breakthrough technologies and technology advancements that provide a competitive advantage for the company, by investing in fundamental science and technology in areas of interest to HPE and getting the resulting technologies ready for adoption into new and existing markets.
We expect all our researchers to provide thought leadership and technical influence both internally and externally to HPE, as well as take innovative ideas and make them real – contributing along the full range from initial novel ideas to design, development, implementation, evaluation, and technology transfer. The ideal candidate can thrive in an applied research environment, balancing significant technical and scientific contributions with the ability to bring such contributions to practice through innovative solutions that address the needs of our customers and partners. We expect the successful candidate to collaborate with Hewlett Packard Labs research teams as well as with external partners, and to work in alignment with HPE's broader innovation community.

Member of pan-HPE VLSI Common Tools and Methodologies Team.
Interface with vendors and guide/recommend CAD tool product selection. Partner with other HPE teams to share tools and best practices.
Interface with IT teams to specify compute and storage needs for design databases as well as maintaining system libraries and dependencies for compatibility with tool versions.
Interface with external design services or project teams to ensure compatible design infrastructure to support collaborations.
Understand evolving IC design methodology requirements across Hewlett Packard Labs and work with Labs leadership to define future organizational needs and structure.
Track innovation and best practices in the industry and propose integration of new technologies into the IC design environment.
Additional responsibilities may be defined based on the candidate's interests in the context of project needs, in concert with EAT leadership.
BS, MS, or PhD degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or equivalent.
10 years of experience developing and implementing CAD tools, methodologies, and design environments for custom IC design.
Expert level knowledge of IC CAD tool methodologies and design database management.
Expert level analytical and problem solving skills. Experience debugging and fixing IC design tool issues.
