Principal, Client Technology Response Program (Finance)

The Principal, Cyber Sec IT Risk Mgmt is a member of Northern Trust's Client Technology Response Program, responsible for interacting with clients to provide insight and comfort around Northern Trust's information technology risk, security programs and related technology controls. This team plays a key role in establishing and maintaining client relationships. The Principal, Cyber Sec IT Risk Mgmt works closely with business and technology subject matter experts to respond to client inquiries around information technology risk and information security controls during client due diligence engagements and new business opportunities.

Major Duties

Deliver a quality product to clients and internal stakeholders, which includes but is not limited to client due diligence questionnaires, new business proposals, client due diligence visits and client on-site audits, and other ad-hoc inquiries pertaining to Northern Trust information technology risk and information security controls. Ensure responses are communicated in a professional manner that are clear, factual and easily understood by the intended client audience. Work with clients and internal stakeholders to meet their expectations related to time commitment, content and quality. Participates in client on-site audits and due diligence visits. Manage the program knowledgebase to ensure it is accurate, timely, in-line with the overall strategy, and appropriately references current policies, standards, procedures, controls, and input from subject matter experts. Relays client control concerns and issues raised to appropriate subject matter experts or control owners. Similarly, proactively inform appropriate subject matter experts or control owners of emerging trends in clients' control expectations. Proactively identify opportunities to improve the process and knowledgebase. Mentor other Client Technology Response Program team members, as appropriate.

Knowledge/Skills

The principal is a technical expert with in-depth knowledge in area of expertise and strong knowledge of other areas. Requires excellent analytical ability, consultative and communication skills, strong judgment and the ability to work effectively with client, IT management and staff.

  • Solid communication skills, both verbal and written. Able to communicate technical topics to clients and partners in terms easily understood.
  • Proactive self-starter able to get things done with minimal oversight.

  • Ability to understand and interact with technology subject matter experts regarding technology topics.
  • Display a sense of urgency as needed to meet client deadlines.
  • Ability to produce high quality deliverables on-time.
  • Has a good understanding of technology risks, systems and related topics.
  • Ability to proactively assess issues, identify solutions and problem solve.
  • Ability to adapt and react timely and positively in a changing and dynamic work environment.
  • Flexible approach towards changing work methods, deadlines and variable workloads.
  • Ability to work under pressure and to deliver to tight deadlines.
  • Ability to develop relationships with diverse groups and various levels of financial and operating personnel.

Experience Required

Bachelor's degree in computer science or a related discipline and at least four, typically six or more years of technical experience in the security aspects of multiple platforms, operating systems, software, communications and network protocols or an equivalent combination of education and work experience.

Salary Range:
$114,700 - 194,900 USD

Salary range is a good faith estimate of base pay. Northern Trust provides a comprehensive benefits package including retirement benefits (401k and pension), health and welfare benefits (medical, dental, vision, spending accounts and disability), paid time off, parental and caregiver leave, life & accident insurance, and other voluntary and well-being benefits. Northern Trust also provides a discretionary bonus program that may include an equity component.
