Facility Maintenance Assistant I (Maintenance)



Job Description

Summary/Objective:
The Facility Maintenance Assistant I supports the upkeep and functionality of company-owned properties, including office complexes, rental units, travel trailers, and residential homes. This role performs hands-on maintenance, repairs, and installations to ensure facilities remain safe, clean, and in good working condition. The Facility Maintenance Assistant I should have a basic understanding of most construction facets including electrical, plumbing, carpentry, HVAC, mechanical, and janitorial.
Essential Functions:
Perform general routine maintenance on electrical, plumbing, carpentry, HVAC, mechanical, and janitorial systems.Regularly inspect company premises to identify maintenance needs or safety hazards and report them promptly to the Facility Maintenance Manager.Ensure operational efficiency of electrical and mechanical systems through timely inspection, troubleshooting, and repair.Perform daily cleaning of the job and/or construction sites.Maintain cleanliness and hygiene of job sites and facilities by performing routine janitorial duties and using appropriate cleaning chemicals, including environmentally friendly products.Support the implementation of and adherence to workplace safety standards and policies; actively assess and minimize worksite hazards.Read and record measurements using a tape measurer and perform basic math as needed for repairs and installations. Operate and maintain hand tools and power tools safely and effectively.Collaborate and communicate effectively with team members to complete maintenance tasks in a timely and professional manner.Work flexible or alternative schedules as needed to support emergency repairs, special projects, or business needs.Work independently with integrity, dependability, and strong attention to detail.Perform other duties as assigned.

Work Environment:
Work is performed in a variety of environments including offices, rental units, shop facilities, houses, travel trailers, and outdoor properties.Work may involve frequent transitions between indoor and outdoor settings throughout the day.Exposure to varying temperatures and inclement weather conditions.Exposure to dust, fumes, and other environmental factors typical of maintenance and repair work.Works regularly around tools, mechanical equipment, and cleaning chemicals, including environmentally safe products.May work in confined spaces, at heights, or on ladders, and must navigate uneven surfaces or tight spaces.Work is usually fast-paced and may require adjusting to shifting priorities or responding to urgent maintenance needs.
Physical Demands - The physical demands below are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job:
Must have excellent visual and auditory physical capabilities in order to manage sight and sounds in hazardous work environments.Specific vision abilities required include close, distance, peripheral, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.Must be able to push, pull, climb, sit, and stretch regularly while performing the essential functions of the job.Must be able to be alert and cognitive of multiple concurrent activities, including awareness of other employees, subcontractors, machinery, and equipment.Must be able to work around loud noises.Must be able to speak loudly so others can hear over other loud noisesMust be able to climb and descend step ladders and perform overhead work when required.Must be able to stand for extended periods of time.Must be able to bend, twist, stoop, crouch, reach, and kneel.Must be able to wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).Must be able to reach in all directions.Must be able to grasp and hold tools and equipment for long periods of time.Must be able to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 80 lbs.
Travel Required:
This position requires travel to various property location sites within Northern California as scheduled. Employees may need to stay out of town for up to two weeks at a time to perform facility job tasks and meet schedules.
Required Education and Experience
Minimum of 2 years experience working in property maintenance, carpentry, renovation, or handyman work.
Preferred Education and Experience:
High School diploma or equivalent.
Additional Eligibility Requirements:
Must have a valid Drivers License.Must provide a clean driving record: 5 yearsMust have a reliable vehicle.May be required to drive personal vehicle to multiple worksites during the workday. Proof of current/active automobile insurance is required.Must pass a pre-employment drug screen.Must have a cell phone for communication and scheduling.Must be able to read and comprehend.
