SET THE COURSE

This role ensures Tommy Bahama products meet global safety, labeling, and regulatory requirements by leading product compliance efforts across apparel, home, and accessories. This includes overseeing testing programs, documentation, and supplier compliance, while actively monitoring evolving regulations and guiding product development teams to ensure alignment. The position plays a critical role in safeguarding brand integrity.

BE THE ISLAND GUIDE

Product Testing & Safety Coordination

  • Manage testing protocol updates with third-party labs and document new product- or country-specific requirements. Implement updates based on emerging risks and evolving standards and lead internal communication and training on changes.
  • Conduct product risk assessments during development to flag potential chemical, physical, or labeling non-compliance early in the process.
  • Review failed test results or product integrity concerns and coordinate resolution with CF Supply Chain teams.
  • Support root cause analysis and Corrective and Preventive Action (CAPA) plans for repeated testing failures or customer complaints.
  • Monitor industry newsletters, events, and regulatory updates to identify changes in product safety and compliance requirements.
  • Maintain and update a product safety manual outlining global product safety and regulatory testing requirements in collaboration with third-party labs.
  • Manage third-party lab invoices and ensure timely, accurate processing.
  • Monitor global market regulations to ensure compliance with country-specific safety standards (e.g., REACH, CPSIA, GB Standards).

Labeling, Packaging & Content Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with FTC Care Labeling Rule by validating accurate care instructions and confirming that label clarity, placement, and durability meet legal standards in coordination with the production team and based on testing results.
  • Ensure compliance with the FTC's TFPIA requirements by verifying that fiber content and country-of-origin disclosures are accurate and properly labeled
  • Ensure compliance with international labeling requirements applicable to Canada, Australia, and New Zealand, while supporting licensee teams with guidance on regional regulatory expectations where relevant.
  • Maintain care code and fiber content libraries in FlexPLM and Smartsheet.
  • Monitor domestic and international labeling regulations; provide guidance to internal teams on implementation.
  • Ensure all printed materials meet brand standards and regulatory expectations.
  • Review and validate product claims (e.g., "eco-friendly," "recycled," "hypoallergenic") across marketing and e-commerce platforms.
  • Contribute to initiatives around digital labeling, Digital Product Passports, and EPR requirements.

Supplier & Third-Party Compliance

  • Serve as primary compliance contact for third-party suppliers regarding regulatory compliance requirements and product safety standards
  • Issue and maintain the Restricted Substances List (RSL) and Vendor Compliance Manual (VCM); & track vendor acknowledgment.
  • Communicate supplier expectations related to packaging, polybags, and testing requirements.
  • Review third-party product lines for potential regulatory or safety risks.
  • Evaluate failed third-party test reports and coordinate follow-up and/or resolution with vendors.
  • Relay relevant customer quality concerns to appropriate teams and suppliers and ensure timely resolution is tracked and documented.
  • Collaborate with Legal and internal teams to resolve compliance questions, clarify standards and help resolve regulatory compliance inquiries.

Cross-Functional Collaboration & Training

  • Serve as a compliance advisor to Design, Product Development, Sourcing, QA, Marketing, and Legal throughout product development and go-to-market processes, ensuring alignment with regulatory requirements and raising awareness of emerging compliance risks and trends.
  • Act as the regulatory subject-matter expert in seasonal line reviews and innovation sessions to flag risks early and influence decision-making.
  • Lead compliance touchpoints across departments to build awareness and ensure accountability.
  • Support onboarding of internal teams and licensees with compliance training and onboarding tools.
  • Assist in development of compliance-related training materials and process guides for internal and supplier-facing teams.
  • Maintain SOPs, reference tools, and guidance documents.

Sustainability & Regulatory Reporting Support

  • Support data collection and documentation for packaging and chemical regulations (e.g., PFAS, EPR, recyclability, eco-design).
  • Monitor global sustainability regulations that intersect with compliance, ensuring alignment, where applicable, with initiatives such as packaging reduction and the use of preferred materials.
  • Partner with Sustainability and Product teams to support traceability, material claims, and certifications (e.g., GRS, FSC, OEKO-TEX).
  • Contribute to internal sustainability reporting and help align compliance programs with company ESG goals.
  • Maintain awareness of pending legislation that could impact product compliance, and help prepare action plans for upcoming regulations.

ESSENTIALS FOR LIFE IN PARADISE

Education and Certifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Business, Sustainability, Environmental Science, or related field (or equivalent experience).

Experience and Skills

  • 5+ years' experience in product safety, regulatory compliance, or quality in a brand, retail, or manufacturing setting.
  • Strong understanding of product lifecycle and how compliance, sourcing, and quality intersect.
  • Experience working with regulatory authorities, standards bodies, or compliance associations.
  • Familiarity with regulatory databases (e.g., CPSC, ECHA) and industry platforms for compliance tracking.
  • Ability to review product tech packs and identify material, labeling, or testing compliance gaps.
  • Knowledge of mechanical and physical safety standards (e.g., ASTM F963, ISO 8124, EN 71) preferred.
  • Awareness of product recall protocols and ability to support recall-related documentation and cross-functional coordination.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and data management platforms (e.g., FlexPLM, Smartsheet).
  • Skilled at analyzing lab results, identifying risks, and performing root cause analysis.
  • Knowledge of chemistry, chemical testing, and ISO standards (e.g., ISO 9001) preferred.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with attention to detail and urgency.
  • Ability to manage shifting priorities and work independently in a fast-paced environment.

Multiple factors will vary the applicable rate of pay for this role, including an individual's experience, knowledge, and skillset, as well as work location and available budget.

Rate Range: $78,000 to $110,000 Annually
