Your Role: Principal Product Manager – Finance

At Elanco, we empower our product teams to solve complex challenges – both customer and business related – with solutions that drive impact. We are a collaborative, data-driven team focused on outcomes over output. As a Product Manager at Elanco, you will play a pivotal role in discovering and delivering digital solutions within a complex product area, ensuring they are valuable and viable, delivering meaningful outcomes that are aligned with corporate strategy and goals.

This Principal Product Manager role will be a critical leader and member of the Enterprise Finance Operations, Tax & Intelligence product space and will lead discovery of and enable execution of solutions that encompass the core platforms, data, and digital experiences that deliver scalable, reliable, and automated Finance capabilities.  You will operate as a 'player-coach,' leading a small, high-impact team of Product Managers while also taking direct ownership of our most complex and strategic initiatives. This role is ideal for a leader who possesses the strategic depth of a Principal PM but also has a passion for growing and mentoring talent. You will be responsible for both your team's success and for personally driving key projects that modernize our global Finance operations, enable global tax and statutory compliance, and equip Finance teams with advanced planning, forecasting, and analytics.  You will lead initiatives that reduce manual effort, accelerate close and reporting cycles, strengthen compliance, and empower Finance with insight and agility to align financial outcomes with business strategies.

Initially you will drive innovation and efficiency, leveraging your expertise to enhance our processes and digital products. As part of a dynamic team, you will have opportunities to broaden your impact by transitioning into other product areas as priorities evolve, aligning your career trajectory with emerging opportunities across Elanco's diverse product landscape.

Your Responsibilities:

  • As a Principal Product Manager, you will oversee strategic product lines and/or lead critical initiatives with high-impact objectives and influence Elanco's strategic trajectory.

  • Apply extensive product management skills in planning, execution, and strategy deployment.

  • Exhibit thought leadership in representing Elanco's strategic vision globally and internally.

  • Mentor cross-functional teams, optimizing solutions and ensuring seamless integration and value delivery.

  • Consistently align product management practices with technological advancements to streamline processes and increase team velocity.

  • Lead enterprise-scale initiatives assuring directional alignment with corporate strategies.

  • Lead multiple product workstreams or a product area—balancing resources across competing priorities.

Problem Solving:

  • Manage complex product developments proactively, addressing strategic challenges with innovative solutions.

  • Own key performance indicators (KPIs) for product portfolio, and mentor team on using data to drive prioritization and validate hypotheses.

  • Engage teams to thoroughly detail problems they tackle, guiding resolution paths and applying effective risk mitigation.

Communication:

  • Articulate and communicate strategic initiatives across Elanco's corporate landscape; articulate a compelling long-term vision for a product space and help other PMs and product teams connect their work to broader strategy.

  • Continually evolve communication practices to boost collaboration and strategic familiarity internally and externally.

  • Represent Elanco and present product strategy at industry conferences, in customer councils, and to senior leadership.

  • Engage with VP/C-level stakeholders, framing decisions, and representing the product organization at senior forums.

Independance:

  • Lead strategic planning, shaping sustainable business directions while maintaining alignment with Elanco's objectives.

  • Navigate budgetary and strategic boundaries with confidence, scaling solutions to meet broader corporate aims.

  • Spearhead corporate strategy alignment, ensuring decisive actions in both product vision and market leadership.

  • Make trade-offs at the portfolio level and help guide other PMs to align team backlogs to enterprise strategy.

Leadership:

  • Lead cross-product strategy and guide other product managers in areas where their products intersect.

  • Influence succession planning within Elanco, fostering strategic depth and leadership continuity.

  • Educate and mentor stakeholders in product management practices and strategic decision-making.

  • Provide direct / indirect people leadership through managing, mentoring, and/or coaching other PMs; help other PMs on how to manage business partners effectively, while stepping in to resolve conflicts or elevate strategic discussions.

  • Influence outside direct span of control (e.g., shared services, engineering, finance leaders).

  • Enhances skill multiplication by building templates, frameworks, and repeatable practices that elevate product management maturity across the team.

What You Need to Succeed (minimum qualifications):

  • Educational Background: Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (e.g., computer science, data science, business).

  • Required Experience: 10+ years in technology, with at least 7+ years in a dedicated Product Management role, successfully scaling or transforming product portfolios with measurable business outcomes.
