POSITION SUMMARY:

The Director of EHS will be actively engaged in project and strategic planning for long term EHS Growth and improvement, improving corporate EHS metrics, Workers Comp, DOT, and protection of assets. The Director of EHS will manage reporting and safety performance metrics to the parent company as well as develop a team of EHS professionals across the manufacturing plants.

KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Actively participate on Business Unit and Parent Company leadership teams in the areas of Operating Plans, Strategic Planning, Corporate EHS initiatives, internal auditing, management systems, compliance initiatives and governmental/regulatory reporting
  • Develops a "one team" approach with EHS providing direction and coaching in a matrixed EHS organization
  • Collaborate with all levels of the organization to promote a culture of safety and continuous improvement
  • Uphold an environment and culture focused on sustaining safe operations, proactively working to improve the physical conditions, and engage team member behavior in recognizing a companywide culture of environmental, health, and safety in all aspects of their lives.
  • Oversee and ensure compliance of all federal, state and local regulations pertaining to operations while maintaining awareness of any amendments to those regulations and their impact on operations.
  • Develop, maintain and implement procedures and programs across multiple sites in compliance with company, local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Administer all aspects of company EHS policies and procedures including incident response and reporting.
  • Drive processes across the business, including JHA, PPE and assessments, behavioral based safety observations and ergonomics
  • Identify strengths and weaknesses of areas around knowledge, create specific programs when necessary, and train accordingly.
  • Measure and evaluate the effectiveness of hazard management systems, policies, and procedures with recommended changes that reflect opportunities to eliminate workplace injuries
  • Provide input and subject matter expertise on strategic processes, tools, and techniques to enhance overall EHS performance
  • Analyze/interpret safety metrics to proactively target and eliminate injuries, reduce injury rates, and achieve positive outcomes through the development and execution of solid corrective actions and strategic plans.
  • Compile, analyze, and communicate metrics and KPIs via monthly, quarterly, and annual reporting
  • Ensure accurate and timely EHS record keeping, document management and effective records management; preparing and submitting all records and reports required by the company and regulatory agencies including the OSHA 300 log and injury records, Tier2 and Form R reporting, (Sara 312/313), TSCA 8e and TSCA 8c, TRI, AIMS, and Biennial Reports.
  • Serve as a liaison and maintain relationships with regulatory agencies, including inspections and ensuring the best possible outcomes
  • Lead or participate in internal or commissioned EHS audits, including preparing for audits, tracking action closures and ensuring actions are implemented throughout all sites throughout the business.
  • Additional duties as assigned by the JBPCO - Vice President of EHS.

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS
  • Bachelor's degree in environmental or safety engineering or similar discipline. Graduate degree and certification (CIH or CSP) would be a plus.
  • 15+ years of safety and health experience including OSHA, EPA, ANSI, NFPA and DOT regulations; multi-site experience in a manufacturing setting.
  • Great communications skills, great attitude, ability to be a team leader under challenging conditions, proven problem-solving ability and ability to manage multiple tasks.
  • Ability to evaluate compliance concerns and develop corrective actions.
  • Proficient computer skills
  • Track record of implementing programs and projects in multiple areas of safety management and execution.
  • Being a positive self-motivator with a passion for the EHS profession.
  • Expected to travel approximately 40 to 50%.

SAFETY:

Safety is paramount on any Morgan operation. The Director of EHS is expected to be familiar with the company's safety program and enforce the safety policy always. Never walk past an unsafe act.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

The performance of this position will require exposure to the manufacturing areas where under certain areas require the use of personal protective equipment such as safety glasses with side shields and mandatory hearing protection. Primary environment: ambient room temperatures, lighting and traditional office equipment as found in a typical office environment. May require walking primarily on a level surface for periodic periods throughout the day. Reaching above shoulder heights, below the waist or lifting as required to file documents or store materials throughout the workday. Proper lifting techniques required. May include lifting up to 25 pounds for files, computer printouts on occasion.
