General Maintenance Spec (Maintenance)



This position maintains the facility and classrooms for the OU CCE Training and Research Center facility, and additional customer locations located in Norman and Moore.  The center supports several hundred staff workers in contact centers, OU and/or OU leased office spaces and training facilities. This includes furniture re-arrangement, communication with OU Facilities Management, small scale repair, hanging of items, deliveries of purchases, and general maintenance.  The position performs a variety of duties involving general facilities maintenance. It performs routine maintenance and repair to facilities under minimal supervision in areas such as plumbing, logging of facility status, checking of specific equipment, building upkeep, HVAC, food service equipment, landscape, and paint.  The position involves regular overtime as needed for classroom setups and re-arrangements.  Position requires reliable transportation. 

Duties: 


  • Performs basic building maintenance duties, including regularly inspecting and maintaining building systems, equipment, fixtures, and replacing parts.
  • Performing minor repairs, including fixing plumbing leaks, electrical issues, HVAC problems, drywall damage, and other building issues.
  • Communicate and coordinate with OU Facilities Management for OU owned building issues.
  • Communicate with Operations Manager for issues with leased facilities.
  • Ensure that all training rooms are ready and set up for daily sessions in accordance with coordinators and instructors, including furniture arrangement and setup
  • Keeps logs of various tracking schedules for building safety (EADs, Fire Extinguishers, etc.)
  • Perform tasks using small hand tools and power equipment
  • Collaboration with other team members, contractors, and supervisors to achieve maintenance goals for all locations
  • Building upkeep: Ensuring the cleanliness and proper condition of common areas, including floors, walls, ceilings, and fixtures.
  • Manages Custodial supply inventory at multiple facilities, organization, ordering
  • Delivery of items to locations
  • Utilization of ticket tracking system for customer requests and issues
  • Other duties as required 

Required Education and Experience:  None

Skills: 

  • Basic math and computer skills.
  • Ability to communicate verbally and in writing. 
  • Ability to accurately read and understand written materials and instructions. 
  • Ability to update written records, including computerized records. 
  • Highly organized and able to handle multiple projects and deadlines.  
  • Proficiency with hand and power tools for building maintenance 

Certifications:

  • Valid Oklahoma Driver's License in order to drive University vehicles or ability to obtain within 30 days from hire date

Advertised Physical Requirements:

  •  Lifting and carrying loads up to 100 lbs.
  •  Prolonged standing and walking.
  •  Climbing stairs, including carrying while climbing.
  •  Excessive stooping and bending.
  •  Manual dexterity. Moving desks, tables and chairs. 
  •  Painting and exposure to chemicals associated with paint.
  •  Exposure to odors.
  •  Exposure to disagreeable tasks or conditions.
  •  Working in very tight areas, cramped enclosures.
  •  Exposure to hazardous chemicals.
  •  Work may involve night, weekend, shift or overtime work.
  •  May be designated as an essential position during emergency closures.
  •  May be required to remain on campus overnight during weather or other emergencies.

Departmental Preferences:

    • Experience with vendor relations
    • Experience with facilities management 
    • Three years or more experience with building maintenance
    • Project Management Experience
    • Excellent Communication skills 
    • Excellent Team Collaboration skills
