Associate Director Market Development CGT (Biotech)

We are seeking a strategic and market-savvy professional with deep expertise in the cell and gene therapy (CGT) landscape to craft and expand our CGT-related product portfolio, focusing on early discovery and preclinical stages. Responsibilities include building and implementing a global marketing plan and long-term go-to-market strategy as well as defining an innovation roadmap to achieve revenue and profit objectives for the CGT portfolios within the value chain. This is a senior position that will require working across a global matrix structure within our Product and CDMO business platforms. You will be working within an inspired and dynamic distributed team across all functions, including R&D, Sales, Digital & Marketing Communications. This position is 100% remote, with a preference for candidates located in or able to work within Eastern Time (EST) hours.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Be responsible for the development and execution of a comprehensive global go-to-market strategy for CGT portfolios with a focus on early and preclinical workflow to meet annual key financial objectives and assure balanced and long-lasting business growth. Plans should incorporate deep insights into customer needs, workflow applications, market trends and business value drivers.

  • Align marketing plans closely with marketing teams from other value chains to assure a flawless customer journey from discovery to commercial.

  • Conduct in-depth market analysis and voice-of-customer (VOC) research to identify trends, unmet needs, and opportunities for portfolio expansion.

  • Plan, execute and optimize multi-channel and high-impact marketing campaigns marketing plans in close conjunction with Marketing Communications and Digital teams. This includes value proposition development, content creation, channel and communication planning.

  • Supervise and report on campaign performance using important metrics and analytical tools.

  • Collaborate closely with global Portfolio Management, regional marketing, R&D and Sales teams to ensure alignment and execution.

  • Establish and handle a global Key Opinion Leader (KOL) program to improve brand visibility and thought leadership in early CGT workflows.

  • Supply to the development of innovation strategies and a forward-looking portfolio roadmap that ensures long-term business success. This should include definition of application data, product life-cycle management and new product innovation.

  • Identify and define high-potential market segments, assessing size, growth potential, and strategic fit.

  • Develop strong arguments for both organic and inorganic growth initiatives, using detailed financial and market analysis.

  • Conduct qualitative and quantitative VOC to guide product lifecycle management and new product development.

  • Collaborate closely with various global teams and functions within our Product and Service platforms to improve our One Lonza strategy.

Key Requirements:

  • Master's degree in biology, Chemistry or Biochemistry or equivalent experience, preferably with a degree in cell biology or related and work-related experience in cell therapy market. PhD or equivalent experience preferred.

  • Experience in strategic marketing and portfolio development in CGT Markets derived from 10+ years in Marketing, Sales, or equivalent role within the life science industry. Previous experience with routine customer interactions in a marketing role is required.

  • Strong analytical skills needed to offer solution proposals for complex business challenges.

  • Profound experience in building a go-to-market strategy including customer segmentation, building a value proposition and product positioning, value-based pricing, and developing a communication plan.

  • Strong financial competence in analyzing P&L and balance sheet calculations as well as understanding the impact of strategic business decisions on financial results.

  • Ability to define market segments and sizes and translating market trends and needs into innovation roadmaps.

  • Experience in conducting qualitative and quantitative market research is a prerequisite.

  • Demonstrated success at building internal and external relationships and addressing upper leadership.

  • Good social skills to serve as liaison between different departments in a global matrix organization with a strong collaborative team spirit. 

We recognize that attracting, developing and retaining the best talent is key to our strategy and success as a company.  As a result, we aim for flexibility in structuring competitive compensation offers to ensure that we are able to attract the best candidates.  As required by law in this state, the quoted salary range for this remote position is $130,000.00 – $221,000.00. We use broad salary ranges that reflect the competitive market for similar jobs, provide sufficient opportunity for growth as you gain experience and expand responsibilities; while also allowing for differentiation on performance based on the breadth of our ranges, most new hires will start at the company between the lower and the middle part of the applicable range. We tailor our offers within the range based on job-related factors, including organizational needs, internal equity, market data, geographic area and the selected candidate's experience, education, industry knowledge, location, technical and/or communication skills and other factors that may prove relevant during the selection process. This range is only inclusive of base salary, and base pay is just one component of Lonza's total compensation package for employees.
