Sterile Processing Technician (Healthcare)



JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
To assist the surgery team at Parkway Surgery Center (PSC) with the organization and daily function of the operating room in accordance with established standards and facility policies and procedures. To ensure that all duties assigned are done in a timely manner and to participate in patient care.

JOB FUNCTIONS:
You will be responsible for the proper decontamination, processing, sterilization and distribution of instruments, supplies and equipment to the OR and other areas of the hospital. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Prepare operating room case carts, sterile trays, and supplies for all areas of the hospital
Clean, assemble, wrap and sterilize reusable surgical instruments and supplies according to the procedures scheduled
Responsible for the maintenance of accurate sterilization records for all machine tests as well as a monthly report
Operate Ultrasonic, Steam, Steris and Sterrad equipment

PRINCIPLE ACCOUNTABILITY:
Provide assistance to ensure the centers objectives are achieved in an effective, timely, and efficient manner.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
High School graduate or equivalent
Knowledge of sterilization supplies, equipment and instruments
Certification from CBSPD or HSPA encouraged
Previous experience 1-2 years strongly preferred
Ability to read and communicate effectively in English
Basic computer knowledge

JOB RELATIONSHIPS:
Does not supervise any other employee.

ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:
Exposure to chemical hazards includes but is not limited to Ethylene oxide, gluteraldehyde, and disinfectants possible. Exposure to communicable diseases and body fluids possible.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Must possess visual and auditory abilities to communicate with people. Requires gross and fine motor skills to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, lift (up to moderately heavy objects), carry, push, pull, bend, reach, and stand for long periods of time. Manual dexterity needed. Good vision. Ability to use fine finger movements.

COMPLY WITH PSC POLICIES:
Attends 50% of departmental meetings per year, 50% of facility meetings per year and is accountable for the information presented at all departmental and facility meetings by initialing minutes as directed.Consistently reports to work on time and begins work promptly and performs duties for entire scheduled shift.Maintains absentee rate within limits of status.Notifies appropriate department manager of absences and tardiness in a timely fashion.Attends all mandatory PSC in-services and watches mandatory videos as evidenced by attendance records.Reads new policies and documents as instructed.
Volunteers to serve on PSC committees as the need arises.
