Academic Advisor 2 - Mechanical Engineering (Finance)



Department: Mechanical Engineering Salary: Commensurate with Experience/Education
Description:

Provides information to and advises both enrolled and prospective students regarding the academic programs offered by the University or a specific department, including requirements for admission and retention through graduation; may coordinate the work of entry level academic advisors.

1. Advises enrolled and prospective students regarding academic programs and curriculums.
2. Analyzes and processes degree plans, graduation applications, grade change forms, and general petitions.
3. Maintains student files updated throughout their academic careers and makes changes to records as necessary.
4. Analyzes and processes requests for readmission from academic suspension, as well as financial aid reinstatements; provides retention services for students on probation.
5. May assist in conducting orientation sessions for groups of incoming new students.
6. May assist in recruiting high school and community college students and may make presentations at special events.
7. Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

This position is responsible for advising current and prospective graduate students throughout the admissions, retention, and graduation process. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Processing graduate admissions applications and scholarship awards.
• Providing guidance and referrals to prospective and current students on matters related to admissions, professional development, funding, student services, policies, degree plans, course selection and planning, as well as career and educational objectives.
• Interpreting and communicating academic policies and procedures to faculty, students, and staff.
• Analyzing, monitoring, and processing student documentation such as degree plans, general petitions, graduation applications, non-resident tuition waivers, and course substitutions.
• Maintaining admissions and student records throughout their academic journey and making necessary updates.
• Coordinating or assisting with the planning and execution of student meetings, including orientations, recruitment events, graduation ceremonies, seminars, and workshops.
• Performing additional duties as assigned.

Experience will be considered in lieu of education.
Education will be considered in lieu of experience.

MQ: Requires a thorough understanding of both theoretical and practical aspects of an analytical, technical or professional discipline; or the basic knowledge of more than one professional discipline. Knowledge of the discipline is normally obtained through a formal, directly job-related 4 year degree from a college or university or an equivalent in-depth specialized training program that is directly related to the type of work being performed. Requires a minimum of three (3) years of directly job-related experience.
